ABOUT THE PAINTING
The grey warbler is the second smallest bird in New Zealand and is extremely light, weighing only 6 grams. These are such delicate little birds with an impressively loud song for their size. One of my earliest memories is being taken for a walk in a push chair by a family friend and hearing one singing, so they have a special place in my affections.
Grey Warblers have quite incredible eyes, of a translucent coppery red, which, along with the jewel-like hawthorn berries, was my inspiration for the name of this painting.
